Top Ten Electronic Preaching Resources

In case you are not a Compass subscriber (and why would you not be!), here is the article published that lists the resources we, the OCC Preaching Faculty, came up with. I would love to hear what we missed!

TOP TEN ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
by Damien Spikereit (with help from the OCC Preaching Faculty)

There are not many things more valuable to a preacher than the exegetical insight that unlocks the passage or the key illustration that drives home your message. Hopefully, the resources provided below will be of benefit to you as you prepare for this Sunday’s message.

1. The Essential IVP Reference Collection This Logos-compatible software collection contains the most valuable dictionaries offered by IVP. As you seek to expose the historical and literary contexts of the passage this software will prove to be invaluable.
2. Preachingtoday.com[1] The MVP of internet websites. It offers the most comprehensive illustration database on the internet along with many other helpful features.
3. Preaching.com A site filled with a variety of resources including an illustration database, blogs, book reviews, and sermon manuscripts.
4. Biblegateway.com As a free alternative to Logos Bible Software, Bible Gateway will expedite the exegetical side of your preaching by allowing you to do word and topical searches as well as providing you with access to a large variety of Bible translations.
5. Snopes.com A unique website that distinguishes fact from fiction in regards to the “urban legends” floating around in pulpits across America. Is it true that the new movie, “The Golden Compass” is intended to offer an Atheistic response to Chronicles? Was the Titanic really promoted as “unsinkable” leading up to its fateful journey? Find out the answers to these questions and many more on this fun and useful website.
6. Various Preaching Podcasts Many of your nationally-known preachers provide free podcasts that automatically download to your iTunes. Ones that I currently subscribe to are: Jon Weece, Andy Stanley, Jeff Walling, Rob Bell, Mark Driscoll, Robin Sigars (Carterville CC), and others.
7. OCC Chapel Sermons There are two ways to access the bi-weekly chapel sermons offered throughout the school year. Either go to the occ.edu webpage and download sermons (current and archived) or you can subscribe to the Ozark Christian College podcast available on iTunes.
8. Kerusso Blog (http://www.occpreaching.blogspot.com/) This is a new blog being offered by the OCC Preaching Faculty that provides links to sermons, sites and resources. Also available on the blog are discussions of interest to preachers and teachers.
9. Sermoncentral.com A sermon-sharing website where preachers from all over the nation and the world can contribute sermons they have preached. The value is being able to see how others have handled certain texts as well as providing an extensive illustration database.
[1] This website and the others listed often contain free material as well as upgrade options that come at a subscription rate.

I'll add these as links to the blog as soon as I remember how to do that (on a side note, if a student wants to be the unofficial, unpaid, and unappreciated blog-master of this site, let me know).

It would be great to get links for some of our favorite podcasts as well -- so send them to my e-mail: welch.doug@occ.edu

Hey, it looks like you remembered what to do!

I just realized that I left out the 10th resource. It was the Preaching Points Podcast out of Gordon-Conwell. I mentioned it in an earlier post. It is a weekly offering of 4-6 minute homiletical nuggets offered by Haddon and the boys.
